In the fall/winter months, we pay attention to our hips, where vata dosha is located. We hold lots of standing poses, which produce heat. We focus upon how we balance on our strong feet and focus on the bones of the legs, as our nervous systems are grounded through the legs. We work the legs until they go from heavy and stagnant to warm and fluid. Openness is more important than flexibility in fall/winter. We focus on the breath and the bones. The season of fall/winter (vata) can bring much humility, as how we breathe throughout our practice is more important than mastering the technical difficulty of the poses. Uddiyana bandha, alignment and balance of the ankles and feet, strong and energetic movement of the arms, grounding squats, backbends, and forward bends will keep us in good stead throughout the colder months.

Warm up, get grounded and take care of yourself with yoga!

Blessings,
Bonnie
